Dear Aude,
I live in Kamakura-city, 50Km south of Tokyo, faces the Pacific Ocean.
Terrible 5 minutes rolling, but no damage and no Tsunami.
But, the east coast of north Japanese mainland is fatally destroyed.
Towns and villages of this area vanished by huge tsunami.
Height of tsunami is estimated maximally 20 meters.
The number of victims is unknown yet, but estimated over 15,000.
Social Infrastructure of this area is totally destroyed.
Electricity, gas, water, telephone, railway, roads, airport…….
Over 400,000 people live as an evacuee.
Outsides temperature is under zero.
Few water, foods, gasoline, kerosene, pharmaceutical products……
But as railway and roads and ports are destroyed, relief supplies are not readily sent.
And more, critical situation of nuclear power plant Fukushima 1, north east 200Km from Tokyo.
Radioactive material is released little by little.
As of now, we can't know that it will be controlled and confined.
In metropolitan area, rolling blackout because of lack of electricity.
It will be the worst crisis for Japanese people and society after the world war II, but we shall overcome by any means this crisis.
Please pray for us.
Best regards
Toshio Takami
